Publishing principles

Publishing Principles

The content classification criteria, quality standards, creator responsibilities, moderation process, and publishing rules that govern all content on OtakuOshi. The reference document for every creator who publishes on the platform.

Purpose of this document

The OtakuOshi publishing principles are the framework of rules that governs what may be published, how it must be classified, and what responsibilities the creator assumes when publishing content on the platform. This is not a style guide: it is a binding document that applies to all published content, regardless of category, format, or subscription tier.

This document is supplemented by the ethics policy (ethical principles and limits), the terms of service (contractual relationship), the privacy policy (data processing), the USC 2257 regulation (identity verification for adult content), and the DMCA policy (intellectual property). In the event of a conflict between documents, the interpretation most protective of the affected persons prevails.

Every creator who publishes on OtakuOshi accepts these principles upon activating their profile. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse for noncompliance.

Content classification

All content published on OtakuOshi must be classified in one of these three levels. Classification is the creator’s responsibility.

🟢

All ages (全年齢)

Content suitable for all audiences with no age restrictions. It contains no nudity, sexualization, explicit violence, or adult language. Includes: SFW illustration, manga without sexual content, family-friendly cosplay, artistic photography with no erotic element, technical tutorials, general fan art, all-ages animation, relaxing ASMR with no sexual connotation, and narrative without adult scenes. This is the default classification.

🟡

R-15 (suggestive)

Content with a sensual or suggestive charge that stops short of being explicit. Includes: suggestive poses, revealing outfits, composition with subtle erotic intent, partial artistic nudity (no genitals or sexual acts), gravure, soft ecchi, double-entendre language, and implied sensual situations. Does not include: full frontal nudity, sexual acts, penetration, or content that a reasonable adult would consider pornographic. For more details, see R-15 content.

🔴

R-18 (explicit adult)

Explicit adult content restricted to verified adults. Includes: full nudity, explicit sexual acts, pornographic content, BDSM, explicit fetish content, and any content that requires legal adulthood to consume. Mandatory requirements: identity verification of the creator (USC 2257), identity verification of every person who appears, and age verification of the buyer. For more details, see R-18 content.

Detailed classification criteria

The line between levels is not always obvious. These criteria help creators classify their content correctly:

From 全年齢 to R-15 — content becomes R-15 when: the body is presented with the intent of provoking sexual attraction (poses, angles, minimal clothing with an erotic focus); there is partial nudity with sensual intent (back, thigh, plunging neckline in an erotic context); the photographic composition or illustration carries a recognizable erotic charge even without nudity; the audio or text contains explicit sexual innuendo without describing acts; or the cosplay reproduces a gravure aesthetic focused on the body.

From R-15 to R-18 — content becomes R-18 when: there is full frontal nudity (visible genitals); sexual acts of any kind are depicted (explicit or simulated with realistic intent); there is penetration (real, simulated, or illustrated); the content includes explicit BDSM, bondage, or fetish content with nudity or acts; the audio describes sexual acts in detail; or the text is explicit erotic narrative.

General rule: when in doubt, classify at the higher level. It is better to classify content as R-15 when it could be 全年齢 than the other way around. Under-classification (publishing R-18 content as R-15, or R-15 as 全年齢) is a violation that may result in forced recategorization, a formal warning, or suspension of the account.

Prohibited content

Regardless of classification, the following content is prohibited on OtakuOshi in any format, category, and subscription tier:

Minors: any content that sexualizes minors, whether real or fictional characters who appear to be minors, regardless of the stated fictional age. Zero tolerance — immediate removal, permanent suspension, cooperation with the authorities. Non-consensual content: content featuring the image, voice, or depiction of real people without their explicit consent to its creation, publication, and commercialization. Includes revenge porn, hidden-camera photographs, and leaked material.

Deepfakes: content generated or manipulated with AI to simulate the appearance, voice, or performance of real people without their consent. AI as author: content generated entirely or mostly by artificial intelligence and presented as human creation. Real violence: documentation of real violence against people or animals. Hate speech: content that incites hatred, violence, or discrimination. Fraud: content designed to scam or deceive. Illegal content: content whose creation, distribution, or possession is illegal.

The complete list of prohibited content and the ethical principles behind it are set out in the ethics policy.

Creator responsibilities

By publishing on OtakuOshi, the creator assumes the following responsibilities for all of their content.

🏷️

Correct classification

The creator is responsible for classifying each post at the correct level (全年齢, R-15, or R-18) according to the criteria in this document. When in doubt, classify at the higher level. Under-classification is a violation. OtakuOshi reserves the right to recategorize misclassified content and notify the creator.

✅

Authorship and accuracy

The creator warrants that the content is their own work or that they have explicit permission to publish it. The creator warrants that the metadata (format, resolution, pages, duration, language, content) is accurate. Publishing someone else’s work as your own is plagiarism. Falsifying metadata to induce a purchase is deceptive advertising. Both are serious violations.

🤝

Documented consent

The creator warrants that every identifiable person who appears in their content has given explicit, informed, and revocable consent to its creation, publication, and commercialization. For R-18 content, verifiable documentation is required in accordance with USC 2257. OtakuOshi may request the documentation at any time.

📋

Tagging and metadata

Each post must include complete metadata: title, description, classification, category, relevant tags (series, character, style, technique), file format, resolution or duration, language, and usage license. Metadata allows fans to find and evaluate content before buying it. Incomplete or misleading metadata harms the fan experience.

⚖️

Intellectual property

The creator is responsible for respecting the intellectual property of third parties. Derivative works (二次創作) are permitted within the dōjin tradition but must be clearly identified as such. Publishing official material, unauthorized scanlations, copies, or content that infringes third-party copyrights is not permitted. Claims are handled under the DMCA policy.

🔄

Honoring commitments

A creator who offers subscriptions undertakes to publish content at the frequency and quality described in their subscription tiers. A creator who accepts commissions undertakes to deliver them within the agreed time frame. Systematically failing to honor commitments to subscribers or buyers may result in a warning, restrictions, or suspension.

Quality and format standards

OtakuOshi does not impose an artistic style or a minimum production level — fans decide which content is worth their support. However, published content must meet some basic presentation standards:

Photography: sharp images with a minimum resolution of 1920 px on the longest side, correctly oriented, with no third-party watermarks or logos from other platforms. sRGB color profile recommended. No destructive editing that hides product defects. Video: minimum resolution of 720p, clean audio if there is a sound component, MP4 format (H.264/H.265). No black screens, unintended abrupt cuts, or filler content that does not match the description.

Illustration and manga: minimum resolution of 2000 px on the longest side for illustration, 1200 px for manga pages. Accepted formats: JPG, PNG, TIFF, PSD, CLIP, PDF, CBZ. No stock-image watermarks or unlicensed third-party assets. Audio: minimum quality of 128 kbps in MP3, 192 kbps recommended. No excessive background noise, distortion, or technical problems that ruin the listening experience. Formats: MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A.

Text and documents: reasonable spelling and grammar in the language of publication. No undisclosed AI-generated content. Formats: PDF, EPUB, TXT. Compressed files: ZIP or RAR with a clear internal structure and descriptive file names.

Publishing process

Creator onboarding: sign-up is free and instant at fans.otakuoshi.com. The creator sets up their profile and subscription tiers and starts publishing. To publish R-18 content, the creator must complete identity verification in accordance with USC 2257. For step-by-step details, see How it works.

Publishing content: the creator uploads the content, fills in the required metadata (title, description, classification, category, tags, format, license), selects the access level (public, subscribers, pay-to-unlock), and publishes. The content becomes available immediately to users with the corresponding access level.

Moderation: OtakuOshi does not review all content before publication (there is no general pre-moderation). The platform acts on reported content (reactive moderation) and may proactively review content when there are indications of a violation. When a violation is detected, the content is removed and the creator receives a notice stating the reason and the available remedy.

Updates: the creator may update published content (fix files, add pages, improve quality), and previous buyers receive the update. Updates may not change the nature of the product in a way that harms those who bought it based on the original description.

Violations and penalties

Violations of these principles are classified in three levels according to their severity:

Minor violation: incomplete metadata, incorrect classification without intent to deceive (for example, R-15 content classified as 全年齢 inadvertently), format below the minimum standard, insufficient tagging. Penalty: notice to the creator with instructions for correction. The content remains up or is temporarily hidden until it is corrected. No penalty on the account if corrected on time.

Serious violation: deliberate under-classification, false metadata to induce a purchase, plagiarism, publishing content without the necessary permissions, repeated failure to honor commitments to subscribers, use of unlicensed third-party content. Penalty: removal of the content and a formal warning recorded on the account. Accumulating formal warnings may result in restrictions or temporary suspension.

Very serious violation: content that sexualizes minors, non-consensual content, deepfakes, undisclosed AI-generated content presented as human-made, impersonation, fraud. Penalty: immediate removal of the content and permanent suspension of the account. Cooperation with the authorities where appropriate. Very serious violations are not subject to appeal.

In all cases (except very serious violations), the creator receives a notice stating the specific reason for the penalty and may appeal through the contact page. Handling times follow the active response policy.

Licenses and rights

Content ownership: the creator retains all intellectual property rights in their content. Publishing on OtakuOshi does not transfer ownership to the platform. OtakuOshi obtains a limited license to host, display, distribute, and promote the content within the platform as necessary to provide the service.

License to the buyer: unless the creator states otherwise, content is sold under a personal-use license (reading, viewing, collecting, private printing). Redistributing, reselling, sublicensing, or using the content to train AI models is not permitted. If the creator offers extended licenses (limited commercial use, printing for sale, etc.), they must state this explicitly in the product listing.

Exclusive content: the creator decides which content is exclusive to OtakuOshi and which is also published on other platforms. OtakuOshi does not require exclusivity unless there is a specific agreement. If content is promoted as “OtakuOshi exclusive,” the creator undertakes not to publish it on other channels during the stated period.

Frequently asked questions about the publishing principles

Answers to the most common questions creators have about the publishing rules.

See the detailed criteria in the classification section of this document. The general rule: erotic intent without explicit nudity → R-15. Full nudity, sexual acts, or content that requires legal adulthood → R-18. None of the above → 全年齢. When in doubt, classify at the higher level.

If it is a good-faith mistake (for example, classifying R-15 content as 全年齢 with no intent to deceive), you will receive a notice with instructions for correcting it. If it is deliberate (publishing R-18 as R-15 to avoid verification), it is treated as a serious violation: removal of the content and a formal warning.

Yes, within the dōjin tradition. Derivative works (二次創作) must be clearly identified as such (not as official material), credit the source series, and comply with the applicable conditions under the terms of service. The creator is responsible for any intellectual property implications.

You may use AI tools in an auxiliary role (upscaling, color correction, noise reduction) as long as you disclose it in the product listing. The content must be fundamentally your own work — AI as a tool, not as the author. Publishing AI-generated content as your own creation is prohibited under the ethics policy.

Yes. Photography: 1920 px minimum on the longest side. Illustration: 2000 px. Manga: 1200 px per page. Video: 720p minimum, 1080p recommended. Audio: 128 kbps minimum, 192 kbps recommended. These are minimums — most creators publish at higher resolutions.

There is no general pre-moderation: content is published immediately. The platform acts on reported content and may review proactively when there are indications of a violation. If a violation is detected, the content is removed and the creator is notified of the reason and the available remedy.

Yes. OtakuOshi does not require exclusivity. You may publish your content on any other platform at the same time. If content is promoted as “OtakuOshi exclusive,” you undertake not to publish it on other channels during the stated period.

Yes, except for very serious violations (minors, non-consensual content, deepfakes). In all other cases, you receive a notice stating the reason and may appeal through the contact page. Response times follow the active response policy.

They are reviewed at least once a year or whenever material changes occur. Changes are communicated to creators with reasonable advance notice and published on this page with the date of the last update.
