How it works

How OtakuOshi works for creators and fans

Here’s how OtakuOshi works from start to finish. Creators in cosplay, illustration, manga, animation, ASMR and other corners of Japanese pop culture post exclusive content, and their fans support them directly through monthly subscriptions, pay-per-view unlocks, tips, private messages and livestreams. It all happens on one platform, designed from day one for the otaku community. Pick your side and start there.

What OtakuOshi is and how it works

OtakuOshi is a fan subscription site built around otaku and Japanese pop culture, for the people who create it and the fans who follow them. The categories, tools and policies revolve around what this community actually posts, from cosplay and illustration to indie manga, animation, character ASMR, 3D modeling and technique tutorials.

The model is a direct subscription between fan and creator. You subscribe to the profiles you’re into and get access to the exclusive content each creator keeps for subscribers. Creators upload their work, set their prices, talk with their community and get paid securely. OtakuOshi handles the tech, the payments and the security, so everyone can focus on the content.

How OtakuOshi works in 3 steps

The path is almost the same on both sides. The only thing that changes is what you do in step two, depending on whether you’re here to post or to browse.

01

Sign up for free

Create your account at fans.otakuoshi.com in under a minute. If you’re going to post, turn on your creator profile in settings. It’s instant and costs nothing. If you’re here as a fan, you can start browsing the content catalog right away.

02

Post or subscribe

As a creator, you set up your subscription tiers, upload your exclusive content and start building your community. As a fan, you browse creators by category (cosplay, illustration, manga, animation, ASMR and more) and subscribe to the ones you like.

03

Earn money or enjoy the content

Creators earn through subscriptions, pay-per-view content, tips and livestreams. Fans get access to that exclusive content, talk directly with their favorite creators and become part of a community built around otaku culture.

For creators: post, get paid and grow your community

You post, you set the prices, you talk to your fans and you collect what you earn. There’s no editorial team that has to approve your work, no algorithm burying it and no advertisers to answer to. The people who follow you pay you directly because they value what you do. If you’re still deciding whether to make the jump, our page for creators walks you through what you can monetize and how to get started.

The site is optimized for phones, has dark and light modes and works like an app (PWA). Your fans can add it to their home screen without going through an app store.

6 ways to make money on OtakuOshi

Stick with just one or combine several, depending on the kind of content you make and the relationship you have with your community.

🔄

Monthly subscriptions

Fans pay a monthly fee to access your exclusive content, and the subscription renews automatically every month. You can create several tiers with different perks, for example a basic one with access to your posts and a premium one with extra content, messages and early access.

🔓

Pay-per-view (PPV)

Post locked content that anyone can unlock with a one-time payment, no subscription needed. It works well for special pieces, complete photo sets, manga chapters or anything else you’d rather sell on its own. You set the price of each post.

💌

Paid messages

Send exclusive content by DM that fans unlock by paying. Use it for personalized content, behind-the-scenes extras or pieces you want to send to specific fans or, with a mass message, to your entire audience.

💎

Tips

Fans can leave you optional tips from your profile, on a specific post or during a livestream. Tips add to your monthly earnings and don’t affect subscriptions.

📡

Livestreams

Go live for your subscribers via RTMP (works with OBS) or right from your browser with WebRTC. You decide whether the stream is free, subscribers-only or open to tips, and you talk to your audience in real-time chat.

🤝

Referral program

Invite other creators with your personal link and earn a commission on their income for a set period. The full terms are on the affiliate program page.

Tools to post and organize your content

The posting system lets you organize, schedule and protect what you upload. It’s built for creators who want to decide how and when their work is seen, which goes well beyond a simple image feed.

Post types. Images, videos, audio, documents, polls and text, and you can combine several file types in a single post. Videos are transcoded automatically into formats that play on every device, so you can upload them in whatever format you have.

Scheduled posts. Pick the exact day and time a post goes live. That way you keep a steady calendar even when you’re offline.

Expiring posts. Create posts that disappear on their own after a set date. They’re handy for limited-time offers, event content or short promos.

Drafts. Save what you’re still working on and publish it when it’s ready. You can work on several pieces at once without rushing.

Pinned posts. Pin a post to the very top of your profile so it’s the first thing visitors see. It’s the ideal spot for your intro, your best work or an important announcement.

Blurred previews. Locked content shows a blurred preview, so fans get a sense of what they’re buying without seeing all of it. That turns visits into sales without giving anything away.

Protecting your content

Your work has value, and these are the tools you have to protect it from copying and unauthorized redistribution.

🔏

Automatic watermark

Turn it on in your profile settings and it’s applied automatically to the images and videos you post, with the position and opacity you choose. If you include your profile link, any unauthorized copy carries your signature in plain sight.

🛡️

DRM protection

Makes screenshots, direct downloads and screen recording of your content harder. It applies to your whole account and makes life a lot tougher for anyone trying to copy you. You can also disable right-click on media files.

🔐

Signed URLs and secure storage

Files are served through signed URLs that expire, so sharing the direct link doesn’t work. They’re stored encrypted in the cloud and can’t be opened without a valid logged-in session. Delivery is CDN-compatible so everything loads fast.

Interaction and community

Posting is only half of it. These tools help you keep a direct, close relationship with your fans.

💬

Real-time messaging

Private real-time chat with your fans. From the chat you can send text, images, videos and pay-per-view content, and notifications arrive instantly on both the website and the PWA app.

📊

Polls in posts

Add polls to your posts and let fans vote on what they want to see, whether it’s the next character you’ll cosplay, the theme of your next illustration or any other creative call. It’s an easy way to make them part of the process.

❤️

Reactions and comments

Fans can react to and comment on your posts, and you choose whether comments are open or closed on each one. Comments support reactions too, so the conversation stays alive under every post.

🔔

Live notifications

Fans get a real-time alert when you post something new, go live or message them. Alerts arrive inside the platform and by email, depending on each user’s preferences.

📌

Bookmarks and lists

Fans can bookmark posts to come back to later and sort their favorite creators into their own lists. That way they keep track of who they follow and don’t miss a thing.

🔍

Advanced search

Filter search results by content type (photo, video, audio), popularity, date and creator. Fans find what they’re looking for in seconds, and creators get more visibility inside the platform itself.

Managing your creator account

Beyond posting, you get management tools to control how you present yourself, how you sell and who can see your profile.

Campaigns and discounts. Run limited-time promos with a percentage off your subscriptions. You choose who they’re for (new subscribers, past subscribers or everyone), how long they last and how big the discount is. Campaigns are featured on your profile.

Free trials. Offer a free trial period so new fans can get to know your content before committing. When the trial ends, the subscription automatically switches to paid.

Deals and bundles. Create discounted bundles for longer periods (three, six or twelve months). They help fans stick around longer and make your income more stable.

Customizable profile. Name, bio, profile picture, banner, location, links to your socials and website. Everything you need to present yourself to your audience like a pro.

Identity verification. Creators can verify their identity to show the profile is authentic. A verified profile builds more trust and can unlock additional features.

Geo-blocking. If you don’t want your profile visible from certain countries or regions, set up geo-blocking in your account’s security settings. You decide where your content can be seen from.

For fans: support the creators who inspire you

If you’re into cosplay, manga, illustration, animation, ASMR, 3D modeling or any other Japanese-inspired creative scene, OtakuOshi gives you access to exclusive content from the creators who inspire you most, and you get to follow their creative process up close.

The experience is designed to be smooth, safe and private. You can log in from any device (the design is optimized for phones), choose dark or light mode and, with the PWA app, keep it on your phone’s home screen just like a native app.

🎞️

🌍

Global CDN and cloud storage

Content is stored with secure cloud providers and delivered through a global content delivery network (CDN). That way your fans get fast loading wherever they are.

Content age ratings

Every post carries an age rating that controls who can see it. Rating it correctly is the creator’s responsibility, based on the nature of the content.

General content (SFW). Suitable for all audiences, with no age verification. This covers the vast majority of creative content: illustrations, casual cosplay, tutorials, SFW manga, animation, 3D modeling, making-of and educational content.

R-15 content. Suggestive or mature-themed content that isn’t explicit. It requires verifying that the user is over 15. It includes innuendo, moderate violence or adult language.

R-18 content. Explicit adult content. It requires verifying the creator’s identity and the fan’s age (18+), and it’s subject to the strict rules of the ethics policy and the publishing principles. Sexualizing minors or childlike-looking characters is never allowed.

Mislabeling content violates the terms of service and can lead to that content being disabled or the account being suspended. OtakuOshi takes child protection and compliance with 18 U.S.C. 2257 very seriously.
