The OtakuOshi brand and what it means
The OtakuOshi brand (オタク推し) grew out of a very otaku idea: actually backing the people you look up to. It’s the platform where fans directly support creators in illustration, manga, cosplay, fan art, animation, ASMR, photography, streaming and storytelling, in a space built for this community, with clear ethics.
What OtakuOshi means
Oshi (推し) is a Japanese word that comes from the verb osu (推す), “to push” or “to recommend.” Fans use it for the character, idol, VTuber or artist they back with everything they’ve got. It goes further than admiration. Having an oshi means you picked someone and you show up for them: you recommend them, buy what they make and follow where their work goes. Add otaku and you get our purpose, which is to be the online home where fans find their real oshis and support them.
OtakuOshi started because creators and fans needed a place where they could create freely and still run it like a real business. General-purpose platforms don’t get otaku culture. Their algorithms bury anime content, their rules change without warning, and their tools weren’t built for someone selling an illustration set, publishing a doujinshi or posting a cosplay timelapse. OtakuOshi is the alternative: a platform built from day one for this community, by people who are part of it.
Our vision
We want a safe, modern, easy-to-join home where any creator in otaku culture (cosplayers, illustrators, manga artists, photographers, writers, designers, voice artists, animators, streamers or VTubers) can share and monetize their work without unnecessary restrictions or opaque middlemen, and without depending on platforms that don’t value what they do.
For fans, the goal is just as clear. A place with content you won’t find on other social networks, where you support the creators you admire directly, get a look at their creative process and share your interests with people who speak your otaku language. We care more about fans who show up and help shape the community than about people who just scroll past.
What the OtakuOshi brand stands for
Six principles behind every decision at OtakuOshi, from product design to moderation.
Respect for otaku culture
We honor the Japanese roots of otaku culture: the doujin tradition, fan art as tribute, cosplay as performance and manga as a way of telling stories. We respect its diversity, its global reach and the communities that keep it alive. We treat it as one of the richest creative cultures out there, not as some exotic niche.
A direct fan–creator connection
No middlemen and no opaque algorithms deciding who sees what. Fans choose who to support and creators post for their own audience. Money goes straight from fan to creator, and you can see where every subscription, purchase or tip ends up.
Privacy and safety as the foundation
We protect creators and fans with professional standards: ID verification for R-18 creators, age verification for fans, discreet billing descriptors, PCI DSS–certified payment processors, data encryption and GDPR compliance. Everything else is built on top of that. You’ll find the details on our security page.
Creative freedom with clear rules
OtakuOshi is a space to explore ideas, styles, stories and genres within legal and ethical limits. There’s room for everything from SFW illustration to fully verified R-18 work, from experimental manga to binaural ASMR. Each creator picks their own aesthetic, and the platform provides the tools to develop it.
Ethics and transparency
We publish our policies and we follow them. The ethics policy, publishing principles, terms of service and the details on payments and payouts are open for anyone to read. If something changes, we say so. If we get something wrong, we fix it under our corrections policy.
Diversity and inclusion
Otaku culture is global and diverse. OtakuOshi welcomes creators and fans of every background, identity, gender, orientation and style, and doesn’t tolerate harassment, discrimination or hate. The community is stronger when everyone feels welcome. You can read our commitment on the diversity and inclusion page.
Who OtakuOshi is for
For fans of anime, manga, cosplay, digital art, ASMR, photography and everything around otaku culture. People who want content that isn’t on social media, who value a direct line to their favorite creators and who know that supporting an artist takes more than a like. It means subscribing, buying their work and following their creative process.
For creators who don’t fit on traditional platforms: illustrators, manga artists, cosplayers, photographers, animators, voice artists, writers, VTubers, designers or anyone making content with an otaku aesthetic who wants to reach their audience directly. To get started, all you need is work worth sharing and a few fans who appreciate it. Millions of followers not required. If that sounds like you, the creators page explains how to begin.
For collectors looking for exclusive digital art, illustration sets, artbooks, doujinshi, presets and resources you won’t find through the usual channels. For anyone who wants original-quality files, pro formats and a direct line to the artist.
