How OtakuOshi works, whether you create or collect
Here’s how OtakuOshi works, start to finish. Cosplayers, illustrators, manga artists, animators, ASMR performers and other creators inspired by Japanese pop culture post work you won’t find elsewhere, and their fans pay them directly: a monthly subscription, a one-off unlock, a tip, a private message or a seat at a livestream. It’s all in one place, built for otaku fandom from the start. Pick your side below.
OtakuOshi in a nutshell: what it is and how it works
OtakuOshi is a subscription site cut to fit the people who make and follow otaku and Japanese pop culture. Rather than bolting anime onto a general platform, the categories, features and rules start from what this crowd really posts: cosplay and illustration, self-published manga, animation, character ASMR, 3D modelling and how-to guides.
At its heart is a straight deal between a fan and a creator. You follow and pay the profiles you like, and in return you see what each creator keeps back for subscribers. On the other side, creators upload, choose their own prices, chat with their community and get paid without chasing anyone. We run the tech, the billing and the safety checks so both sides can spend their time on the actual work.
How OtakuOshi works in three simple steps
Creators and fans follow the same path. The only fork comes at step two: are you here to post, or to watch, read and listen?
Make a free account
Registering at fans.otakuoshi.com takes less than a minute. Planning to post? Turn on the creator profile in your settings, which happens instantly and is free. Here to enjoy? Head into the content catalogue right away.
Choose your route
Creators build their tiers, upload their first exclusives and start gathering a following. Fans hunt by category (cosplay, illustration, manga, animation, ASMR and the rest) and subscribe to whoever catches their eye.
Get paid, or get stuck in
Creators earn from subscriptions, one-off unlocks, tips and livestreams. Fans get the exclusive stuff, chat directly with their favourite creators and end up among people who care about the same series they do.
If you’re a creator: your work, your prices, your fans
Everything runs through you. You decide what goes up and what it costs, you talk to your fans and the money you earn comes to you. Nobody has to approve your posts, and no advertiser has a say. Your supporters pay because they like what you make. Still on the fence? Our page for creators covers what you can sell and how to get your profile off the ground.
On a phone it feels at home, you can switch between dark and light themes, and the site installs like an app (PWA). Fans pop it on their home screen without going anywhere near an app store.
Six ways to get paid on OtakuOshi
Use one on its own or mix and match. It depends on what you create and how close you are to the people who follow you.
Monthly subscriptions
Subscribers pay a set amount each month to see your exclusive posts, and it rolls over automatically. You can offer more than one tier, say an entry tier that unlocks your feed and a top tier that adds bonus material, messages and first look at new work.
Pay-per-view (PPV)
Lock a post and anyone can open it for a single payment, subscriber or not. Good for a showpiece, a full photoshoot, a manga chapter or anything you’d rather sell on its own. Each post gets whatever price you choose.
Paid messages
Drop exclusive content into someone’s inbox and they pay to open it. Handy for custom requests, outtakes or one-off extras, whether you send them to a single fan or blast them out to everyone at once.
Tips
Fans can chip in whenever they feel like it, from your profile, under a post or in the middle of a stream. Every tip counts towards that month’s earnings and leaves subscriptions untouched.
Livestreams
Broadcast to your subscribers with OBS over RTMP, or from a browser tab using WebRTC. Make each stream free, subscriber-only or tip-enabled, and keep up with the live chat as it scrolls.
Referral programme
Share your own link with other creators and you’ll earn a cut of their income for a fixed period. The small print lives on the affiliate programme page.
Publishing tools that keep your feed organised
Uploading is the easy part. The publishing side is there so you can plan, sort and guard your work, and choose exactly when and how each piece appears, which is far more than you get from a plain photo grid.
What you can post. Photos, video, audio, documents, polls and written posts, with different file types happily sharing one post. Video gets converted behind the scenes into formats any device can play, so don’t worry about exporting it a particular way.
Scheduled posts. Choose the exact day and time a post goes live, so your subscribers still get their Friday set while you’re queueing at MCM London.
Expiring posts. Give a post an end date and it vanishes by itself. Ideal for a flash sale, a con-weekend special or any short-run promotion.
Drafts. Park anything unfinished and come back to it later. Juggle several pieces at once and publish each when it’s properly done.
Pinned posts. Stick one post to the top of your profile so newcomers see it before anything else. Use it for a hello, a highlights reel or news you don’t want buried.
Blurred previews. Locked posts show a blurred version, enough for fans to judge what they’re paying for. Curious visitors become buyers, and you haven’t given the good bit away.
Keeping your work safe
You’ve put the hours in, so here’s how we stop your work being copied and passed around without permission.
Automatic watermark
Turn it on once in your profile settings and every image and video you upload gets stamped, placed where you want and as faint or bold as you like. Add your profile link and anyone who reposts your work ends up advertising you.
DRM protection
Gets in the way of screenshots, straight downloads and screen recording. It covers your entire account, so would-be copycats have a much harder time of it, and you can block right-clicking on your media as well.
Signed URLs and secure storage
Every file sits behind a signed link with a time limit, so passing a URL around is pointless. Files are encrypted in cloud storage and only open for someone who is properly logged in, and they’re delivered through a CDN so pages stay quick.
Staying close to your community
Uploading gets your work seen. These features keep the conversation with your fans going between posts.
Real-time messaging
One-to-one chat with fans as it happens. You can share text, photos, video and pay-to-open content straight from a conversation, and alerts pop up immediately on the site and in the PWA.
Polls in posts
Stick a poll on any post and let subscribers choose your next cosplay, the subject of your next illustration or any other creative call. They get a say, and you get a ready-made to-do list.
Reactions and comments
Subscribers can react and leave comments, and you switch comments on or off post by post. Replies can be reacted to as well, which keeps threads lively.
Live notifications
The moment you post, go live or send a message, your fans hear about it, inside the platform or by email depending on how each of them has set things up.
Bookmarks and lists
Fans can save posts for later and group the creators they follow into lists of their own making, which is handy once they’re subscribed to more than a few.
Advanced search
Filter by content type (photo, video, audio), popularity, date or creator. Fans get to what they’re after in seconds, and creators get found without leaving the platform.
Running your creator account
Alongside posting, a set of account tools lets you shape your shop front, your offers and your audience.
Campaigns and discounts. Knock a percentage off your subscriptions for a limited time. You pick the audience (newcomers, lapsed subscribers or everyone), the length of the offer and the size of the discount, and the campaign gets a highlighted spot on your profile.
Free trials. Let new fans try you out for nothing before they commit. Once the trial is over, the subscription switches to paid without anyone lifting a finger.
Offers and bundles. Sell three-, six- or twelve-month packages at a reduced price. Longer commitments mean fans stick around and your income is easier to predict.
Customisable profile. Display name, bio, avatar, banner, location and links to your socials and website. Enough to look the part without hiring a designer.
Identity verification. Verifying your identity shows fans the account really is you. They trust a verified profile more, and verification can unlock extra features.
Geo-blocking. Prefer that people in certain countries or regions can’t see your profile? Switch on geo-blocking under your account’s security settings and choose exactly where you’re visible.
If you’re a fan: back the people whose work you love
Whether your thing is cosplay, manga, illustration, animation, ASMR, 3D art or another craft with Japanese roots, OtakuOshi puts you in front of the exclusive work of the creators you rate most, and lets you watch it come together piece by piece.
We’ve aimed for something that runs smoothly, keeps you safe and stays private. Log in on whatever device you have to hand (it’s built with phones in mind), pick a dark or light theme and, through the PWA, keep it on your home screen just like any other app.
What you can do as a fan
From tracking down new creators to handling your account and payments, here’s the fan side at a glance.
Browse by category
Dig through the content catalogue, split by discipline: cosplay, manga illustration, manga and doujinshi, animation, ASMR, tutorials, 3D and VRoid avatars and more. It’s the fastest route to creators who share your taste.
Subscribe to your favourites
Pick a tier with each creator and their exclusives open up on the spot. Your subscription carries on month to month without you having to renew it, and if you cancel, everything stays visible until the time you’ve paid for is up.
Unlock special content
Some posts can be bought one at a time, no subscription needed. You pay for the bits you want, whether that’s a one-off piece, a complete shoot or a bonus chapter.
Message your creators
Send a private message through the live chat. Ask how they made something, request a custom piece or just say well done. It’s one-to-one and stays between the two of you.
Join their livestreams
Tune in when your favourite creators go live, whether that’s a cosplay build, a drawing session, a chat or a Q&A. Join in the chat as it happens and, if you fancy, send a tip mid-stream.
Low-key billing, private account
Nothing on your bank or card statement gives the game away: the charge appears under a discreet descriptor with no platform name and no hint of the content, and what you do on OtakuOshi stays private. Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) for an extra lock on your account.
Paying and getting paid on OtakuOshi
Payments go through established international payment processors, so money moves quickly, safely and dependably in both directions. Everything is encrypted on the way through, and fans and creators never see each other’s financial details.
Fans. Pay by debit or credit card, from the built-in wallet (top it up once and spend it anywhere on the platform) or through other payment gateways. Your statement shows a discreet descriptor, and the security settings let you cap how much you can spend in a day.
Creators. Earnings are paid out monthly to whichever account or payout method you’ve added to your profile. As well as mainstream processors, OtakuOshi uses processors that support adult content (CCBill and Verotel, for example), so payouts stay steady whatever you publish. The creator payouts page has the full breakdown. If you’re a UK creator, our creators page also covers the HMRC side of things.
Digital wallet. Fans load the wallet and draw on it for subscriptions, unlocks and tips, so there’s no card payment every single time. Credit never runs out. Creators can ask for a withdrawal from their dashboard whenever they choose.
Content categories
Everything is sorted into categories built around how otaku creators actually work. Each one has a page of its own, with featured creators and related posts.
Cosplay
Shoots, costume and accessory builds, make-up and wig styling, half-finished cosplays, con-floor behind the scenes and posing clips. Anything from a relaxed closet cosplay to museum-grade replica armour and props.
Manga illustration
Original artwork, fan art, character sheets, concept pieces, roughs, drawing timelapses, digital and traditional technique lessons, and art packs kept for subscribers.
Manga and doujinshi
Self-published and original manga, doujinshi, webcomics, one-shots, ongoing serials, storyboards and the work behind each page, from the script through inking to screentone. Writing or drawing your own? Our page for doujinshi artists walks you through publishing.
Animation and motion
2D and 3D animation, motion graphics, AMVs, short films, loops, character rigs, peeks into the animation process and software tutorials, covering Japanese and Western tools alike.
ASMR and voice
Character ASMR, voice acting, light novels read aloud with feeling, anime and manga podcasts, audio dramas and other immersive listening you won’t hear anywhere else.
3D and VRoid avatars
Characters and sets modelled in 3D, VRoid and VTuber avatars, Unity and Unreal Engine assets, digital figures, finished renders and 3D workflow tutorials made with otaku creators in mind.
Under the bonnet: PWA app, video and CDN
The bits you don’t see, which keep OtakuOshi quick and dependable.
Mobile-first design with PWA
Everything was designed for a phone screen first, and the platform runs as a Progressive Web App (PWA). Fans can add it to their home screen and use it like any installed app, with no app store in between. Dark and light themes come as standard.
Automatic video transcoding
Upload a video and it’s converted automatically so it plays in any browser. Whatever format you start with, the platform handles the conversion and optimisation and sends each screen the best quality it can take.
Global CDN and cloud storage
Files live with secure cloud providers and travel through a worldwide content delivery network (CDN), so they load fast for fans in Leeds and Lisbon alike.
Content age ratings
Each post gets an age rating that decides who can open it. Choosing the right one is down to the creator, based on what the post contains. UK fans will be used to this kind of check: since 25 July 2025, the Online Safety Act has required sites that allow pornography to carry out highly effective checks on their users’ ages.
General content (SFW). Fine for everyone, with no age check. Most creative work lands here: illustration, everyday cosplay, tutorials, SFW manga, animation, 3D work, making-of posts and learning material.
R-15 content. Suggestive or mature in theme without being explicit. Viewers must be verified as over 15. Think innuendo, moderate violence or strong language.
R-18 content. Explicit material for adults. The creator’s identity and the fan’s age (18 or over) must both be verified, and the strict standards in the ethics policy and the publishing principles apply. Sexualising minors, or characters who look like children, is forbidden without exception.
Getting a rating wrong breaks the terms of service and can see the post taken down or the account suspended. OtakuOshi treats child protection and compliance with the US 2257 record-keeping rules (18 U.S.C. § 2257) as non-negotiable.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers on how OtakuOshi works for both creators and fans. Can’t see yours? Try the full FAQ or the help centre.
No. Fan and creator accounts are both free to open. As a fan you only spend money when you subscribe or unlock a pay-per-view post. As a creator you can post for nothing; the platform takes a commission on what you earn, as explained on the creator payouts page.
You keep up to 80% of what you earn. The precise commission and its conditions are on the creator payouts page. That fee pays for payment processing, file storage, the CDN, technical support and keeping the whole system running.
Yes. OtakuOshi accepts creators from the UK and pretty much everywhere else. Earnings go to the account you add to your profile, wherever you’re based, though which payout methods you can choose depends on your country.
Work tied to otaku and Japanese pop culture: cosplay, illustration, manga, animation, ASMR, tutorials, 3D modelling, VRoid avatars, making-of posts and process content. It has to respect the publishing principles and the ethics policy. General, R-15 and R-18 posts are all fine, provided each carries the right rating.
Payouts run once a month. You pick a payout method in your creator dashboard (bank transfer, an e-payment processor or whatever else is offered where you live), and once each payout is processed it’s sent without you doing anything. Arrival time varies with the method and the country. The creator payouts page has the details.
A debit or credit card, handled by secure payment processors, or the built-in wallet, which you top up and then spend across the platform. Everything is encrypted and the charge shows up discreetly on your statement. Our security page goes into more depth.
No. OtakuOshi is a Progressive Web App (PWA): open it in your phone’s browser, save it to your home screen and it behaves like an installed app, complete with notifications, one-tap access and full-screen viewing. No app store involved.
Not at all. Cancel any subscription from your fan dashboard whenever you want. You’ll still see that creator’s posts until the period you’ve paid for runs out, and nothing more is taken after that. The fan-creator agreement sets out how subscriptions work.
No. Your statement carries a generic descriptor, and what you do on the platform (subscriptions, purchases, messages) isn’t passed to third parties. Add two-factor authentication (2FA) for extra protection. The privacy policy has the full picture.
Our support team, via the contact page. For anything payment-related, give the date, the amount and which creator it involved. The team will look into it and sort it out within the timescales in the active response policy.
Every user on OtakuOshi has to be at least 18. Opening anything rated R-15 or R-18 means passing a compulsory age check, and creators of explicit material have to verify their identity. The platform follows the US 2257 record-keeping rules (18 U.S.C. § 2257) and has a zero-tolerance stance on any sexualisation of minors.
Report posts, accounts or technical faults on the complaints page or the contact page. Screenshots, links and dates all help the team get to the bottom of it faster.
