OtakuOshi at a glance

Put simply, OtakuOshi (オタク推し) is a subscription and direct-sales platform built for otaku culture alone. On one side are independent creators, among them cosplayers, illustrators, mangaka, photographers, animators, voice artists, VTubers, writers and designers. On the other are fans who pay them directly through subscriptions, one-off purchases, tips and custom commissions.

Our catalogue reaches across the full range of otaku work, taking in illustration and fan art, manga and doujinshi, cosplay and photography, animation, ASMR and audio, tutorials and resources, fiction and 3D. Work is rated all-ages (全年齢), suggestive (R-15) or adult (R-18), and the adult tier is locked behind identity and age verification.

Ownership sits with Polaris Nexus LLC, whose registered office is 1621 Central Ave, Cheyenne, Wyoming 82001, in the United States. Our about OtakuOshi page gives the wider background to the project.

Boilerplate copy

Need a description you can drop straight into a story, a directory entry or a press release? We’ve written one at three lengths: a single line, a paragraph and a longer three-paragraph version. The English versions are just below, and Spanish or Japanese versions can be requested from press@otakuoshi.com.

Describing OtakuOshi in your coverage

One line: On OtakuOshi, anime and manga fans subscribe to independent cosplayers, illustrators, mangaka and other creators and pay them without a middleman.

One paragraph: Owned by Wyoming-based Polaris Nexus LLC, OtakuOshi (オタク推し) is where otaku fans fund the people who make the things they love. Voice artists, animators, photographers, mangaka, illustrators and cosplayers earn from monthly subscribers, single sales and made-to-order commissions. Everything on the site, from ASMR and 3D models to manga, tutorials and cosplay sets, carries an all-ages, R-15 or R-18 rating, and R-18 access is verified.

Three paragraphs: In Japanese fandom, your oshi (推し) is your favourite, the artist, character or creator you’d always put first. OtakuOshi (オタク推し) takes that idea and turns it into a working business model. Fans subscribe, buy finished work, request commissions and get a look behind the scenes, while the creators they champion are paid for it.

The range is wide. A fan can move from a doujinshi to a cosplay photoshoot, then on to fan art, an ASMR track, a VRoid avatar, a short animation, a short story or a drawing tutorial. Material is labelled all-ages, R-15 (suggestive) or R-18 (adult), and anyone wanting R-18 must pass ID and age checks first. There’s no middleman between creator and audience, and the money side is fully transparent.

Mass-market sites have to cater for everything; OtakuOshi was set up to do one thing well, so its tags, formats, ratings, categories and creator tools all reflect how otaku work is actually made and shared. Polaris Nexus LLC of Wyoming, USA, owns the platform. Privacy policies follow GDPR, adult creators are verified under the US law 18 U.S.C. § 2257, creators’ work is shielded from AI misuse and moderation follows rules anyone can read.

Story angles we can help with

If you’re working on any of the subjects below, OtakuOshi can offer context, figures or a comment.

Making a living as a creator: how independent artists in the otaku space build recurring income from subscribers instead of relying on the whims of social media algorithms. A global fandom: anime, manga and cosplay have travelled far beyond Japan, which raises the question of what specialist platforms offer niche communities. AI and creative work: our stance on generative AI, and the steps we take against scraping, deepfakes and the use of creators’ work for model training, all set out in our ethics policy.

Moderating mixed-rating content: what it takes to host family-friendly and adult work side by side, from rating systems and ID checks to safeguarding children and moderating to public rules. Keeping payments private: age checks, GDPR, PCI DSS-compliant card processing, discreet statement descriptors and financial privacy for subscribers (see our security page). Fan works and copyright: what happens to authorship, derivative works and intellectual property when the Japanese doujinshi tradition moves onto the web.

Using our name and logo in editorial work

News outlets, bloggers and content creators don’t need to ask before using the OtakuOshi name, our logo or screenshots supplied by the press team in news stories, reviews, analysis, features and other informative coverage, as long as they follow the conditions below.

Write the name as OtakuOshi, one word with a capital O at the start of each half. Leave the logo exactly as it is, with no changes to its proportions, colours or orientation. Keep screenshots in their informative context and don’t edit them. If your story quotes facts about the platform, such as creator numbers, revenue or policies, we’d suggest double-checking them with the press team before it goes out.

Advertising, commercial or promotional use of the brand, logo or screenshots (anything outside editorial coverage) needs our written permission in advance. Send that request to press@otakuoshi.com.
