Help centre

The OtakuOshi help centre, for creators and fans alike

Got a question? This is the OtakuOshi help centre, where you’ll find answers on your account, posting and viewing content, money matters and keeping safe, sorted into a fan side and a creator side. And if nothing here does the trick, OtakuOshi support is happy to hear from you.

Finding your way round the OtakuOshi help centre

We’ve grouped the answers three ways. The basics are relevant whoever you are; the creator questions cover publishing your work, selling it and getting your money out; the fan questions deal with subscribing, paying, talking to creators and fixing things when they go wrong. Inside each group you’ll see themed sections, and a question expands as soon as you tap or click it.

Brand new to OtakuOshi? You may find it easier to read our guide to how the platform works before diving in here, or to wander through the content catalogue and get a feel for the creators and their work. For broad questions about the site, the OtakuOshi FAQ is usually quicker.

Start with the basics

What OtakuOshi is, the age rule for joining, and where each sort of question should go.

Yes, you must be 18 or older. Beyond that, OtakuOshi is open to anybody who wants to discover, enjoy or produce work inspired by otaku and Japanese culture; creators can register from any country, and fans can join wherever they live. Before you can open anything rated R-15 or R-18, you’ll have to verify your age.

There isn’t an app yet. The platform lives in your browser instead, which means it works on a laptop, a desktop, a tablet or a phone, with a layout that rearranges itself for smaller screens. If we ever release a native app, we’ll announce it on the platform and on our social accounts.

Our support team handles anything to do with your account, your uploads, billing or how a feature behaves, and the quickest route to them is the contact form. You can see how long we allow ourselves to reply in the active response policy.

Yes. Reporters, editors and anyone making news or documentary content can visit the OtakuOshi press page, which keeps current facts, a media kit and the details of our communications team in one place.

They can, provided it’s part of an official investigation. Police, regulators and other public bodies wanting details about the platform or about a particular account should pick the legal team option on our contact form and attach the relevant official documentation with each request.

Businesses, brands and organisations will find the different ways to team up with us on the partnerships page, along with a route to our business development people. If you write about otaku culture, you’ll also find details there of our paid articles programme.

Pick the nearest match from the options on the contact form and send it anyway. Someone will reply as quickly as possible.

Signing in and protecting your account

Locked out, setting up two-step verification or worried about intruders? Start here.

Tap the ‘Forgot your password?’ link on the login page, then type in the email you used to sign up. A reset link will land in your inbox, and it expires after a short while for safety reasons. Nothing arrived? Check spam and junk first; if it’s genuinely missing, drop us a message using the contact form.

Two-step verification (2FA) lives in the security section of your account settings. Switch it on and the platform will walk you through pairing an authenticator such as Authy or Google Authenticator, which then gives you a one-off code at every login. Write down your backup codes and store them safely, because they’re your way back in if your phone goes missing. For the wider picture on how we protect accounts, see platform security.

There are three usual suspects. Because 2FA codes are time-based, a phone whose clock has drifted will produce codes that don’t match; it’s also easy to copy the code from the wrong entry in your authenticator, and backup codes only work once. Switching your phone to automatic date and time fixes most cases. If yours isn’t one of them, explain what’s happening through the contact form and we’ll get you back in.

Pick a new password immediately and, if 2FA isn’t on yet, enable it. After that, get in touch with support via the contact form; we’ll look over what has happened on your account lately and act on anything suspicious.

Creator questions

Cosplayers, illustrators, manga artists, animators, ASMR performers, tutorial makers, 3D modellers and everyone else creating otaku work on OtakuOshi, this section is for you. It answers questions about your account, what you’re allowed to publish, the platform’s tools, complaints, referrals and how your money gets to you.

If you’ve only just joined, read setting up as a creator for the sign-up and verification steps, and go through publishing your work before anything goes live so the rules don’t catch you out. Not signed up yet? The page for creators sets out how you can make money from your work on OtakuOshi.

Setting up as a creator

Everything about your creator account, from registering on day one to closing it down.

First create an account at fans.otakuoshi.com and verify your email; the creator sign-up is then started from inside your profile. Once that’s done, customise your page, decide on your subscription tiers and upload something. There’s no charge and no waiting period. Our guide to how OtakuOshi works covers each step in full.

No, each person gets a single verified creator account. It’s how we keep profiles authentic and make sure every ID check links back to one real person. Creating in several quite different styles? Keep it all under one roof and separate things with distinct tiers or collections.

Not at all. Creators from every part of the world can join OtakuOshi, and payouts are sent to you whichever country you’re in.

The most likely reasons are ID documents that are incomplete, blurry or inconsistent with the details on your application, an existing creator account tied to the same identity, or planned content that sits outside the categories we support. Whatever the cause, the rejection email spells it out, and you can usually correct the issue and reapply.

In most cases it’s one of three things: you’re not yet 18; you’ve had an account suspended or removed in the past for going against the OtakuOshi terms; or a technical glitch interrupted your sign-up. If none of those fits, tell us about it using the contact form.

There is. Turn on hidden mode in your creator account settings and your profile disappears from search and from the category listings, though anyone holding your direct link can still visit. Creators use it to take a quieter spell or to keep their audience small and private.

Ask for your account to be closed either in your profile settings or via the contact form. We’ll settle any outstanding earnings and cancel your fans’ running subscriptions before anything is removed. Once it’s gone there’s no going back; your uploads, messages and associated data are erased for good, in the way our privacy policy describes.

Publishing your work

The rules on publishing, what’s permitted, AI, appearing alongside other people and how OtakuOshi moderates.

Anything rooted in otaku and Japanese pop culture has a home here. That means cosplay, manga-style illustration, manga and doujinshi, animation and motion design, ASMR and voice acting, tutorials and behind-the-scenes making-ofs, 3D modelling and VRoid avatars and more besides. Whatever you upload must stay within our ethics policy and the platform’s publishing principles.

Posts are removed when they go against our ethics policy, the publishing principles or the terms of service. Typical causes include rating something at the wrong level (R-15 versus R-18), material that’s banned outright, someone else’s copyright, or work that doesn’t fit any category on the site. Think we’ve made a mistake? You’re entitled to appeal through the contact form.

They are, as long as they sit in the R-15 or R-18 categories. For R-18, two checks apply: the creator proves who they are and every viewer proves their age. Explicit work has to be rated and tagged accurately. We have zero tolerance for anything that sexualises minors or characters with a childlike appearance, and the same goes for depicting sexual violence or coercion. Our ethics policy sets out every rule.

Yes, so long as it respects our ethics policy and publishing principles. Anything explicit belongs under R-15 or R-18, and every participant has to be an adult whose age we’ve verified. We don’t allow roleplay that imitates scenes with minors, glorifies real violence, or involves coercion or absent consent.

That’s fine, provided each identifiable person has given clear consent and you have a record of it. Think group cosplay shoots, collabs with photographers or sets with models. Where the result is rated R-15 or R-18, everyone in it needs to have passed identity and age verification on OtakuOshi too.

Because OtakuOshi is made for human creators, fully AI-generated output can’t be the main thing fans subscribe to. AI is fine as a helper in your workflow, for instance to correct colours, upscale an image or fill in a background, provided you’ve done the core creative work yourself and you mention the AI involvement in the post’s description.

Not without their explicit consent. Deepfakes, AI face swaps and any synthetic material that borrows someone’s face, voice or identity are prohibited, and that applies to anyone, whether a real person or a fellow OtakuOshi creator. Breaking this rule can get your account suspended immediately.

No. In direct messages with fans there’s no place for chatbots, AI auto-replies or any tool built to imitate a human talking. Fans subscribe to hear from you, and handing private conversations over to automation is treated as deceiving them.

In your bio, yes; feel free to link your socials and your pages on other sites there. Using DMs, posts or chats to nudge fans off OtakuOshi so they pay you somewhere else is a different matter, and it’s a breach of the OtakuOshi terms.

We’d urge you not to. Your address, phone number, bank information and identity documents should stay private, both here and anywhere else you talk to fans. Since OtakuOshi processes all payments securely, there’s no reason for anyone to swap that kind of information. We look after your data as set out in our privacy policy.

We advise against using OtakuOshi to arrange in-person meet-ups. The fan relationship on this platform is an online one, and we can’t be held responsible for what happens away from it.

Tools and features for creators

Pricing, subscriptions, locked messages, tips, going live, protecting your work and getting noticed.

You do. Create several tiers if you like, give each one its own perks, and adjust what they cost as often as you want. Our commission and the money side of things are explained on the payouts page.

Open the messages area in your creator panel and start a new pay-to-unlock message. Add the exclusive file, whether that’s a picture, a clip, an audio track or a document, choose a price, then send it to a single fan or a whole group. Nobody can see what’s inside until they’ve paid.

You choose the price, though it has to fall between a floor and a ceiling we set to keep things fair for everyone. The precise limits and terms live on the payouts page.

Same idea, your price. Fans see a teaser of the post in your feed and pay the amount you’ve set to open the full version. Our payouts and fees page lists the permitted price range.

They can, whenever they want to show some extra love, on a specific post, while you’re streaming or from your profile page. Tips count towards your earnings for that month and are paid out alongside everything else, with the platform’s commission on them matching the rate on subscriptions.

Yes. Each tip has a minimum value and each fan has a daily ceiling, which helps protect against fraud and against people overspending in the heat of the moment. Have a look at our payouts and fees page for the figures.

Yes, through a free trial you configure in your creator profile settings, choosing how long it lasts. Fans pay nothing while it runs, and when it finishes they roll on to the paid tier you picked without having to do anything. Trials are a good hook for winning new subscribers.

You can launch limited-time subscription discounts straight from your creator panel. Set the discount, how long it runs and who it’s for (brand-new subscribers, lapsed ones or the lot), and your profile will display the offer prominently for the whole run.

Put your profile link wherever your audience already finds you, from social posts to bios to the description box under your videos, and consider setting up a custom link that sticks in people’s heads. A popular tactic is dropping teasers on your socials with the link attached to tempt new subscribers over.

Yes, from time to time we spotlight creators on category pages, the homepage and our official social accounts. When choosing, we weigh up content quality, how active you’ve been, audience growth and your record on the rules. Only SFW work (suitable for all ages) that meets our quality and format standards is eligible, so a steady stream of strong posts gives you the best shot. Visibility can’t be bought.

Everything is in the livestream area of your creator panel. Give the stream a name and a description, decide whether it’s open to all or just your subscribers, and choose whether tips are switched on. We’ll hand you a stream key and URL to paste into broadcasting software like OBS, or, where your device allows, you can broadcast directly from the browser.

Yes, with a bit of planning. The pair of you need to agree the details and configure the broadcast so that both profiles are attached to it. Our built-in messaging is the best place to iron out the technical setup and agree how any money from the stream will be divided.

Only if it hasn’t been read. Unopened messages can be deleted from your conversation history, but once the other person has seen one it stays put. A locked message that has already been paid for is final, both the message and the charge.

Mix and match pictures, video, audio, documents, polls and written text. Posts should relate to one of the platform’s categories and respect the publishing principles. You can attach as many files as you like to a single post, but each file is subject to the platform’s size limit.

Yes. Open the post from your creator feed and choose edit or delete; you can rewrite the text, swap files in and out or change its visibility. Bear in mind that fans who already bought a pay-to-unlock post keep the version they paid for, whatever edits you make later.

It can. Our automatic watermark is switched on from your profile settings and is stamped on the photos and video you upload, making unauthorised resharing harder. Its position and transparency are both adjustable.

DRM makes screenshots, straight downloads and screen recordings far harder, and you’ll find the switch in the security settings of your creator profile. No system can stop every copy, but this one raises the bar considerably. The setting covers your entire account and applies to everything published after you enable it.

Complaints and reports for creators

Dealing with leaks and stolen work, challenging moderation decisions, restricting or blocking fans and flagging rule-breakers.

Let us know through the complaints and reports page or the contact form, giving us the link where your work has turned up, when you first posted it and anything else that proves it’s yours, as that helps us move faster. We can also send DMCA takedown requests for you.

You can. Send your appeal via the contact form with as full an explanation as possible. A team member who wasn’t involved in the first decision will look at it again, within the time limits laid out in our active response policy.

Both are available from a fan’s profile or your subscriber list. A restricted fan stays subscribed but can no longer send you messages or leave comments. A blocked fan loses all access to your profile, has their subscription cancelled and is stopped from ever subscribing again.

Whether it’s a fan or another creator, file a report using the complaints page or the contact form. The more evidence the better, so include screenshots, links, dates and a short account of what went on; that way our team can investigate and step in without delay.

Referring other creators

How creator-to-creator referrals work, where to get your personal link and the commission terms.

When a creator signs up using your personal link, you earn a commission on what they make for a fixed period after joining. Our affiliate programme page has the full details on rates, duration, conditions and exclusions.

It’s generated in your creator panel, ready to send to any creators you think would enjoy OtakuOshi. As soon as somebody joins with it and starts earning, your commission kicks in automatically according to the affiliate programme terms, and it’s paid out with your other monthly earnings.

Getting paid

When your money arrives, what slows it down, and how chargebacks and bank fees work.

Once a month, automatically, to whichever bank account or payout option you’ve added to your creator profile. You can read the complete money terms on our payouts page.

We process payouts early in the month following each billing period, and after that it’s down to the method you’ve chosen. A bank transfer generally takes between 3 and 7 working days, some e-payment options can be faster, and your bank and country can affect the timing as well.

The usual culprits are bank details in your profile that are wrong or incomplete, unfinished ID verification, a high number of chargebacks, a security review in progress or bank holidays where you live. Make sure your payout information is current, and if the money still hasn’t come through, contact us via the contact form.

Payouts may be paused when something irregular turns up on the account, such as suspected fraud, repeated chargebacks or a breach of the OtakuOshi terms. An expired identity check or invalid payout details can have the same effect. We’ll always email you the specific reason and how to fix it, and you’re welcome to write to support if you think we’ve got it wrong.

With a chargeback, the fan has gone to their bank to get a platform payment reversed. OtakuOshi contests it on your behalf, sending the payment processor proof that the purchase was genuine. Should the bank side with the fan, the money is taken back out of your earnings, and a pattern of chargebacks can put your account at risk.

OtakuOshi doesn’t charge it; your bank does. Some banks take a cut on incoming international transfers or when they change one currency into another. It’s worth asking yours how it treats money from overseas, or switching to a payout method that costs less.

No. If the content is on OtakuOshi, the payment for it has to be made on OtakuOshi too. Requesting money by bank transfer, PayPal, crypto or anything else off the platform breaks the terms of service and can get your account suspended immediately.

Setting up as a fan

Opening a fan account, why we check your age and deleting the account later on if you wish.

Just an email address. Register at fans.otakuoshi.com, which is free and instant, and you’re ready to browse the content catalogue, follow whoever catches your eye and subscribe to unlock their exclusive posts.

You’ll only be asked to verify your age before viewing work rated R-15 or R-18; general content needs no check at all. The law requires it, and it ensures explicit material is seen by verified adults and nobody else. Our USC 2257 compliance statement goes into more detail.

Yes, from your profile settings. Doing so cancels every subscription you have running, and periods you’ve already paid for aren’t refunded. It can’t be undone either, because your messages, the library of content you’ve bought and all other account data are deleted, as described in the privacy policy.

Finding and following creators

Discovering creators, subscribing, managing what you’re subscribed to and keeping your interactions safe.

Start in the content catalogue, have a look through categories such as cosplay, illustration, manga, animation and ASMR, or search for someone by name if you already know who you’re after.

Visit their profile, choose a tier and pay. Access is immediate and includes every exclusive post in that tier. What fans and creators agree to is laid out in the fan-creator agreement.

OtakuOshi subscriptions roll over monthly by default, so you don’t suddenly lose access to a creator’s posts. Turn auto-renew off whenever you like in your fan panel; you’ll still have access right up to the end of the month you’ve paid for.

Go to the active subscriptions list in your fan panel, select the creator and confirm the cancellation. Their posts stay visible to you until the renewal date comes round, at which point the subscription closes and nothing more is taken.

Not every creator runs them, but those who do show trials and discounts for newcomers beside their subscription tiers. A free trial still needs a payment method on file, and unless you cancel before it ends, that method is charged for the subscription automatically.

No. Keep your address, phone number, banking information and identity documents to yourself, since payments and chats on OtakuOshi already run through secure channels. If a creator asks you for personal details off the platform, flag it on the complaints page.

It’s not something we’d encourage. Our position is that meetings shouldn’t be arranged through OtakuOshi, because fan-creator relationships here are meant to be online only, and we’re not responsible for anything that takes place elsewhere.

Everything on OtakuOshi belongs to the creator who made it, and download options vary from creator to creator and format to format. Reposting, copying or redistributing work elsewhere without the creator’s permission is strictly prohibited and goes against the OtakuOshi terms.

Money matters for fans

Tipping, payment options, your wallet, daily limits, what appears on your statement and bank charges.

Tips can be sent from a creator’s profile, from any of their posts or in the middle of a livestream. Tap the tip button, type the amount and confirm; it’s processed on the spot and the creator is notified.

There’s a minimum for each tip and a daily total you can’t go over, both there to block fraudulent payments and to save you from spending more than you meant to. See our payouts page for the actual figures.

There are several, all protected by end-to-end encryption, and our platform security page explains what’s on offer and how it’s safeguarded. Your card and banking details are kept secure and never passed to creators.

No, the name won’t. Charges show up under a neutral descriptor that reveals neither OtakuOshi nor what you bought, so your bank and credit card statements stay discreet.

Think of it as credit held on the platform. Top it up using any accepted payment method, then spend it on subscriptions, locked content and tips without having to make a fresh payment each time. Credit doesn’t expire, and topping up is free.

Yes. Daily limits are set up out of the box to protect you, and you can adjust them in the security settings of your fan account; for safety, some changes may need an extra verification step.

The fee is your bank’s, not ours. Certain card providers add a surcharge for buying from abroad or for converting currency, so it’s worth asking yours what applies to international purchases or using a different payment method that’s cheaper.

Complaints and reports for fans

Complaining about content that disappointed you, reporting a creator who breaks the rules and requesting a refund.

Lodge it on the complaints page or tell us about it through the contact form. Name the creator and the post and explain exactly what went wrong; the fuller the picture, the better we can help.

Report it via the complaints page or the contact form, with as much supporting evidence as you can gather, from screenshots and links to dates and a summary of events. Our team will investigate and respond following the steps in the active response policy.

You can ask for a refund through the contact form. Give us the payment details (when, how much and which creator), your reasons and any supporting information, and we’ll weigh it up against the fan-creator agreement. Every request is judged on its own merits, so a refund isn’t automatic.
