Platform and sign-up
Worth reading before you make an account. For a fuller walkthrough, see how OtakuOshi works.
Think of it as a home for otaku and Japanese pop culture creators who want paying supporters. Cosplayers, mangaka, illustrators, voice artists, fanfic writers, animators and prop makers post their work; fans pay monthly or buy single posts to see the exclusive material, and creators receive that income directly. Creators can read what’s on offer on the creators page, and our how it works guide gives everyone the complete picture.
No. Fans join, browse, read profiles and view public posts at no cost, and pay only when they subscribe to somebody or buy a specific post. Creators don’t pay to join either. Rather than a sign-up fee, OtakuOshi takes a commission from creator earnings.
Yes: our terms of service require you to be at least 18, whichever country you’re in, to open a fan or creator account. Separately, R-15 and R-18 posts stay hidden until you complete the matching age check. People publishing R-18 also verify their identity, as the US law 18 U.S.C. § 2257 requires.
Yes, through your mobile or tablet browser. OtakuOshi is a Progressive Web App (PWA), so you can pin it to your home screen and launch it like an app without visiting an app store. Pages resize to fit whatever device you’re on. Keep an eye on the OtakuOshi blog for platform updates.
Not at all. Post in English, Japanese, Spanish or any other language you like, with no restrictions, and fans join from all over. A smaller language won’t reduce your visibility or change how your posts are handled.
Nine main categories: cosplay, manga illustration, manga and doujinshi, animation and motion, ASMR and voice, tutorials and making-of, 3D and VRoid avatars, R-15 content and R-18 content. The content page brings them together.
For fans
Supporting the people whose work you love: subscribing, buying and saving files. The help centre has further answers.
Pick a tier on the creator’s profile and pay; exclusive posts unlock instantly. Renewal is automatic each month. To stop, cancel in your fan dashboard at any point and carry on viewing until your paid period finishes.
No. Where a creator offers pay-to-unlock posts, you buy each one with a single payment and nothing recurring. Tips and paid messages are options too. See how each option is paid for first if you’d like.
Nothing revealing. We bill under a generic descriptor, so the entry gives no hint of what you bought. Our security page goes into more depth.
Very. Cancel from the fan dashboard, no questions asked. Access lasts until the period you’ve paid for ends, and after that nothing further is charged. Full terms sit in the fan-creator agreement.
If the creator enables downloads, yes: photos, audio, video, PDFs and 3D models can all be offered that way. Saved files are for your own use. Under the terms of service you mustn’t share them on, sell them or use them to train AI.
When a charge looks mistaken or the post differs from its description, go to the complaints page and choose ‘Refund request’. Give the date, amount, creator and item, and say why. We look at every request on its merits under the fan-creator agreement. Never done this before? The help centre guides you through it.
For creators
The essentials before you publish and start charging. Everything else we offer creators is on the creators page.
Make a free account at fans.otakuoshi.com, turn on creator mode, decide your tiers and publish. There’s no waiting period. One exception: R-18 uploads require identity verification beforehand.
A commission on what you earn, and that’s it: no set-up charge and no fixed monthly bill. In a month with no sales, OtakuOshi takes nothing. Percentages and conditions are on the commission and payout methods page.
Payouts arrive at regular intervals via whichever international payment method you add to your creator profile. Schedules, thresholds and choices vary with the method you select on the payouts page. Payment stuck somewhere? Tell us through the contact page and we’ll look into it.
Anything original or fan-made with roots in otaku and Japanese pop culture: cosplay, illustration, manga, doujinshi, fan art, fanfiction, animation, ASMR, tutorials, 3D, props and more. Posts must follow our publishing principles, ethics policy and terms of service. See the nine categories on the content page.
Tiered monthly subscriptions, pay-to-unlock posts, tips, paid messages, live streams and custom commissions, plus the affiliate programme. Use as many as suit the way you work, at prices you choose. For a comparison, how OtakuOshi works sets them side by side, and the payouts page has the conditions.
Post your profile link on your socials, run free trials or discount offers, sign up to the affiliate programme, collaborate with fellow creators or request a promotion from OtakuOshi. Bigger collaborations are covered under creator partnerships, and our help centre explains each promo tool.
Content and ratings
Ratings, age checks and the rules for posting, all grounded in our publishing principles.
They’re our three levels. All ages (SFW) suits anybody. R-15 is suggestive and limited to over-15s. R-18 is explicit and limited to over-18s. You’ll pass an age check before seeing either of the last two. Creators rate each post using the criteria in the publishing principles.
R-15 keeps things implied, using pose, outfit, framing and light to suggest rather than show. R-18, for adults aged 18 and over, includes nudity and explicit erotic material. Our publishing principles draw that boundary using specific criteria.
We’re built for human creators, so passing off AI output as your own work isn’t allowed. Used an AI tool somewhere in your workflow? Declare it openly. Deepfakes, and any AI material that borrows a real person’s face, voice or identity, are banned as well. Details are in the ethics policy.
Yes. We ban any sexualisation of minors or of characters who look like children, sexual violence or coercion, degrading material, AI content that hasn’t been declared, plagiarism and anything illegal. The ethics policy, publishing principles and terms of service set these rules.
Rated material sits outside the general catalogue, visible only after the right age check. R-18 creators prove their identity under the US law 18 U.S.C. § 2257. Sexualising minors is banned everywhere on OtakuOshi, and we have zero tolerance for anything that endangers children. Such reports go to the very front of the queue under our active response policy.
It is. Following Japan’s long doujin tradition, fan art, fanfiction, doujinshi, character cosplay and similar work based on anime, manga or games are all welcome. Mark each post as original or derivative; respecting any conditions that apply is your responsibility under the terms of service.
Payments and billing
Paying as a fan, getting paid as a creator. Figures and timings live on the payouts page.
Debit and credit cards, handled by international payment processors, or the built-in digital wallet, which you top up and spend from. Either way, a discreet descriptor is all that shows on your statement.
Certain banks add a charge on overseas payments or currency conversion, often shown as a non-sterling transaction fee. It comes from your card issuer, not from us. If it happens a lot, one larger wallet top-up means fewer charges from your bank.
Load it from your card, then use the balance for subscriptions, purchases, tips and paid messages. It makes budgeting simpler, keeps small charges off your bank account and lets you cap how much you spend each day. Our help centre walks you through setting it up.
That varies with your chosen payout method and where you live. See creator payout timings for frequency and minimums. Running late? The help centre lists the usual reasons, or you can reach support via the contact page.
Safety and reporting
Protecting your account, flagging problems and using your rights. Issues that need tracking belong on the complaints page.
Lodge a formal report via the complaints page. Select a category, such as harassment, impersonation, plagiarism or inappropriate content, and give as full an account as possible, links included. Illegal material and threats to anyone’s safety are dealt with first, in line with the active response policy.
Yes. On the complaints page, pick ‘Stolen or leaked content (DMCA)’ and paste in both the address of the copy and the link to your original OtakuOshi post. Where the copy is hosted elsewhere, our team can file the DMCA takedown for you. We regard unauthorised sharing as a serious breach.
It hinges on priority. Urgent matters, for instance danger to minors, ongoing impersonation or intimate images posted without consent, get an acknowledgement inside 6 hours and initial action inside 12. Other cases are acknowledged within 24 to 72 hours, depending on severity. Every timescale is listed by priority in the active response policy.
Switch on two-factor authentication (2FA), choose a long password used nowhere else, keep your login to yourself and steer clear of dodgy links. Suspect a break-in? Reset your password at once and alert support through the contact page. Our security page has further advice.
Your rights to access, correct, erase or port your data, and to object to its use, can be exercised at any time. Message us through the contact page, putting ‘GDPR’ in the subject and including your full name plus your account email, or write to the address in our privacy policy. We reply within the statutory deadlines.
Yes, every one of them. Go to the complaints page, select ‘Appeal of a deactivation or suspension’, set out your reasons and add any supporting evidence. Someone other than the original decision-maker reviews it and responds within our published timescales.
